Speech contest at Kyoto Notre Dame University

There was a speech contest at Kyoto Notre Dame University on November 13th, and Ms. Gao Yu of KCP Japanese Language School participated in the contest as a speaker. (The one in the very right in the photo is Ms. Gao) Below is her comment about her experience.

"I was so glad that I passed the pre-final of the contest and were able to participate in the final stage in Kyoto. The common theme of the speech was "Japan and me". Thanks to all the assistance my teachers gave me, I came up with a good speech titled "Strange but beautiful paradox". The speech itself only took about 5 minutes, but the preparation needed hundreds of times more than that! It was the first time for me to participate in such a contest in Japan, so I got nervous but it was definitely a fun experience for me.
All the speakers chosen for the final stage gave great speeches. I was the last speaker to go up there, so I felt a lot of pressure, but after I started speaking starting from "Konnichiwa" all my pressure was gone and I just focused in speech. I could not win any prizes in the contest but the process I came through for my preparation and the speech itself were great opportunity for me to recognize what I felt about Japan through my 1 year stay here and to express that in my words, which was excellent experience for me. Although I did not win any prizes, one of the university professors who heard the speeches that day told me that the contents of my speech was superb, and that made me happier than winning any other prizes in the contest. This experience will stay in my memory forever!"
