Yesterday we held an evacuation drill at the school for students to know what to do in case of an earthquake. This time we set up a case scenario that we had a big earthquake and we have fire in the neighborhood after the shock.
"We now have an earthquake, hide under your desk!" Teachers tell students to hide under their desks to protect themselves from any falling objects. Students swiftly hide under their desks, but we heard some say "I can't fit!" It may not be easy for tall people to fit, but it is important for you to protect at least your head for sure in this kind of case.
After that people evacuated to Shinjuku-Gyoen park close from the school. The situation setting was that there is a fire in the neighborhood, so everyone covered their mouth with handkerchief or sleeves when they walked to the park. Some said "I don't want to gather attention while I have handkerchief on my face!", we get that but we would like everyone's understanding that this kind of drill is normal in Japan and it is important for us to practice so that we could be prepared for emergency cases. |
