Students in beginners level classes went to Shinjuku Gyoen park for Ohanami on April 19th and 20th.
Many students were first afraid that may be they cannot see cherry blossoms in this timing, but no worries, there are various kinds of cherry blossoms in the park and some of them bloom later than the other ones. When we went there a type called "Yae-zakura" was at their best. We were able to appreciate beautiful contrast of thin pink, darker pink, white and light green of flowers and trees.
Students were fascinated with the view and many of them asked us "Why do you have so many kinds of cherry blossoms in Japan?"
It is a tough question, we are not really sure why. But we think that it is because Japanese people love cherry blossoms so much and have been making our best efforts to pass on / make as many kinds of cherry blossoms as possible.
