Have you ever gone to the sumo stadium to see a sumo match? Sumo is Japan's national sports, and I first saw a match on TV. It is very unique, and I find the sports very interesting. Last Sunday me and my friend went to Kokugi-kan sumo stadium in Ryogoku to see sumo tournament. We saw many colorful banners outside and heard Yose-daiko (drums).
Sumo wrestlers are all very tall and muscular. I heard that they should weigh more than 75kg. While I was there I had a chance to take a commemoration photo with a wrestler from Bulgaria, it really made my day!
At 11:30AM, wrestlers wearing "Mawashi" belt came out to the ring in the center of the stadium. Those who do a match on the ring take "Shiko" steps on there and throw salt for purification etc. before their match. The rule of sumo match is very simple so it was easy for me to understand and enjoy seeing. Fans were yelling out their favorite sumo wrestlers' names and the atmosphere in the stadium was so exciting. If you have a chance to go see a sumo match you should really take it!!
